14 Worshippers Killed in Jihadist Attack on Burkina-Faso Church


Not less than 14 worshippers were killed while an unconfirmed number sustained injuries in a jihadist attack on  Protestant Church of Hantoukoura in Burkina Faso on Sunday.

The attack which hit the eastern side of the country occurred during Sunday mass.

Burkinabe President in a statement on his Twitter handle on Sunday describes the attack as barbaric, offering his “deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”

Hundreds of people have been killed in the country over the past few years, mostly by jihadist groups, sparking ethnic and religious tensions especially on the border with Mali.

A security source told AFP that armed individuals carried out the attack, “executing the faithful including the pastor and children”.

The attack came less than two months after 37 people were killed in an attack on a mining company, with additional 60 people believed wounded.

AFP reports that more than 700 people have been killed in Islamist unrest since fighting spilled across the border from Mali.
