International Youth Day: Ondo Youths Solicit More Participation in Governance


The Ondo State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria( NYCN) has said government at all levels must engage and empower the youths for the society to enjoy a relative peace.

Chairman of the youth group ,Comrade Oluwatoyin Owoeye in a statement to commemorate the 2017 International Youth Day celebration said the role of the youth in nation building cannot be over emphasized.

The statement partly read: “Peace as it is known has been a major challenge for almost every nation of the world today and importantly for any outline of peace we the youths are always in the centre stage of such discussions hence peace is never the absence of war but a call for a well-meaningful life in a conducive environment for all regardless of our race and status.”

Owoeye noted that government should build an atmosphere where the youth will be given the chance to contribute their quota in nation building.

The group affirmed that the involvement of young men and women in participatory decision-making and development processes are vital to achieving sustainable human development.

While saying the rate of employment among the youth is on the increase, he urged government to provide job opportunities for the them to be actively engaged.
