Against the background of the successes being recorded in the ongoing implementation of EU-Unicef health intervention in some selected Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the 20 LGA’s of Bauchi, chairman of Giade LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Salihu has promised to use the learnt from the EU-Unicef health intervention by replicating same in some PHCs of the LG.
The council chairman disclosed this to our correspondent in an exclusive interview during a media assessment visit to Giade Township Maternity.
Salihu said that though the challenges surrounding primary healthcare access are huge, enabling environment within PHCs is greatly assisting in creating demand for health services by the people of the LG, especially nursing and expectant women and under five children.
“I am very much aware of the friendly and enabling environment created through the complete renovation, equipping and supply of free drugs for pregnant women and nursing mothers by the EU-Unicef health intervention.
“If such intervention could trigger clients, especially pregnant women and nursing mothers into seeking medical services, then Giade Local Government would also replicate same in some of those PHCs that did not benefiting from the EU-Unicef project”.
While commending EU-UNICEF and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency for the project in the entire 20 LGAs of Bauchi State, the Chairman said that Giade LG is ever ready to partner with other humanitarian organizations for any intervention that would enhance the living conditions of the people.
He also commended the State Governor, Bala Mohammed for giving the LGAs free reins in the running of the local councils in the state, describing it as unprecedented.
