Gov Ahmed Commends Military on Fight against Insurgency

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has commended the Nigeria Army and other security agencies for their bravery in the fight against insurgency in the country.

Ahmed made the commendation in Ilorin when he received the new Commandant, 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sobi, Brig.-Gen. Sulaiman Idris, and the out-going Commandant, Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Sawyer in his office.

He reiterated his readiness to continue to foster stronger relationship with security organisations in the state.According to the governor, the Nigerian Army is a pride to Nigeria and has demonstrated sufficient competence to secure the nation against internal and external aggression.

“Given the enabling environment, the Army has the capacity to protect and secure the country,” he said. Ahmed eulogised the out-going commandant as someone who had truly demonstrated professionalism.

He said the out-going commandant was able to strengthen security in the state and created interface between the military and civilians.

The governor promised to give the needed support to security agencies in the state in order to make their job easier and create peaceful atmosphere for economic growth and development.

Earlier, Sawyer assured the governor that the personnel were capable of providing the needed security to keep the state safe and secure.

He recalled that the brigade had at different times arrested wanted Boko Haram suspects and ensured that the sect did not have a base in the state. (NAN)
