It was tears and grief at the Rivers State Police Command, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt as the news of the death of Commissioner of Police Francis Mobolaji Adesanya was received.

Officers and men of the police force were tongue tied in commenting on his death as it was not yet made official. But sources at the command revealed that Adesanya died in India of kidney failure.

Before his appointment in August 2016, Adesanya was the Command’s Finance Director, a position he held even though he was a graduate of Political Science.

His brief reign was dogged by many controversies: Adesnya had a running battle with Governor Wike on the 2016 rerun election in which he felt the commissioner did not respond well to issues that fellout of the election.

Wike also led a peaceful procession to the Commissioner over his dissatisfaction with the recklessness of two senior policemen and killings in the state found the door of the late police boss shut against him.

Also the Department of State Security (DSS) blamed Mr. Odesanya for allegedly connivinng  with Governor Wike to thwart the secret police’s mission to arrest a federal judge, Mohammed Liman, in an overnight operation. The DSS said he sided with Wike to provide a cover for the judge; the allegations he denied.

Men of the command who spoke extempore to The Politico described Adesanya as a kind-hearted boss who took the welfare of his men seriously.

He was 56years old.
