Bauchi Commissioner Doles Out Palliatives


Bauchi State  Commissioner for Women Affairs and  Child Development, Hajiya Hajara Jibrin Gidado, has distributed foodstuff to the needy in some communities of the state.

Speaking to The Politico in Bauchi on Thursday , the commissioner said the gesture was borne out of the desire to assist in this critical period of COVID-19 pandemic that also coincides  with  the Ramadan fast when people are in dire need.

Hajiya Gidado explained that the palliative distribution was in collaboration with the office of Bauchi First lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhamamd with a view to cushioning  the effects of the pandemic.

She stated, “With the collaboration of the first lady Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad we distributed the palliative during the partial lockdown taking into cognisance the critical situation people found themselves”.

The palliative distribution, according to her, has reached all the nooks and crannies of the 20 local Glgovernment areas of the state with women as the sole beneficiaries, especially the vulnerable one among them, through the use of women groups and associations.

“Beneficiaries of the palliative gesture are mostly Women who lost their bread winners with dependants under them and the most vulnerable ones.

One of the beneficiaries, who spoke to our correspondent , Fatima Usman in Bauchi LGA, expressed delight with the gesture, and prayed Allah  to reward the donors abundantly.

Items distributed  include rice, sugar, a millet, pasta, noddles and, cooking oil, among others.
