Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed,  has expressed remorse over the passing of the  immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru.

Reacting to the death of the late Baru, Mohammed, in a press statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado in Bauchi, expressed shock over the death of the former NNPC GMD.

The governor described Baru’s death as a great loss not only to Bauchi State and Nigeria but also to the world at large.

According to him, the deceased was a great son of the state, adding that the late Baru contributed to oil exploration in the North-East of Nigeria.

Governor Mohammed added that the state would never forget Baru’s contributions to the education sector of the state as well as many empowerment programmes he initiated.

“Maikanti was a great and patriotic son of Bauchi State who contributed immensely in exploring oil in the North-East of Nigeria.

“Bauchi State will never forget his landmarks in the building and renovation of schools in some parts of the state, in addition to many empowerment programs and projects he initiated.

“Late Maikanti has been instrumental in leading reforms that helped in making oil in Nigeria more viable, particularly ending long queues associated with fuel scarcity in the country,” the governor stated.

The Governor then on behalf of his family and the people of the state, commiserated with the family of the deceased and the entire country on his demise.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Baru and the fortitude to bear what he described as “irreparable loss” of the former NNPC Boss.
