Former President, Gooodluck Jonathan, has commiserated with the people and government of Togo over the demise of the country’s ex-Prime Minister, Edem Kodjo.

Kodjo, a former Secretary General of the African Union, died on Saturday in Paris, France, at the age of 82.

Describing Kodjo as a reformist and statesman who helped carve a democratic path for his country, Jonathan, in a statement on Monday, said he would continue to live in the hearts of the Togolese.

“For the rest of us, Kodjo made deep impressions as a spirited pan-Africanist and a consummate diplomat whose visionary approach to leadership significantly impacted Africa’s drive for freedom, peace and unity,” Jonathan added.

Kodjo served as prime minister from 1994 to 1996 and from 2005 to 2006, under the regime of a former president, Gnassingbe Eyadema.

He was elected as the Secretary-General at the Organization of African Unity (OAU) Summit in Khartoum in 1978.
