According to a news report monitored on Sky News, Floyd Mayweather has been linked with a box-office bout with UFC champion Conor McGregor, while Pacquiao sparked rumours of a rematch when he wore a jacket with his and Mayweather’s face showing on the inside lining. Pacquiao, 37, himself came out of retirement to beat Jessie Vargas via a unanimous decision to reclaim the WBO welterweight title in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Mayweather finished his career with a 49-0-KO26 record.Mayweather was ringside for that fight, but said yesterday: “A lot of fighters in the sport of boxing may want to retire, but they have to fight because they have to.”I don’t have to fight. I just made $300 million for fighting Pacquiao. I’m okay. Like I said before, I’m happy with my position. Once again, the money don’t make me; I make money.
“I’m well off. I make smart moves, and like I said before, I’m happy with where my career has gone.”Pacquiao has since returned to politics to continue serving as a member of the Philippine senate after he was elected for a six-year term in June.Speaking after his win over Vargas, he said: “I went back after the fight because there is still work at the office and I’m excited to get back to work. So boxing is done, set aside for now, and just focus on work.”
