Ondo South Blackout : Youth Set to Occupy Lagos-Ore-Benin Expressway Aug. 1

Youth groups no fewer than 26 mostly in Ondo South Senatorial district in Ondo State under the aegis of Ondo South Advancement and Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA),have concluded plans to shut down the Lagos -Ore-Benin Expressway to protest against 10 years of power outage in the area.

In a statement in Akure at the weekend, President of OSAWA, Ade-Aworetan Oluwajuwon and made available to The Politico said the youth would shut down the road on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 by 6am.

The groups added that the state government failed to meet the ultimatum that elapsed on July 5 , 2018, lamenting that Akeredolu does not give the south district the needed attention .

The statement read in part, ” The above action became necessary as a result of Federal and state governments decision to call bluff our passionate appeals in time past.

“As part of OSAWA mission statement, aims and objective which verse majority of the stakeholders, populace of the southern part of the state and beyond are conversant of, we’ve decided to go to the barricade.

“Interestingly, it is on record that Ondo South Advancement & Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA) had written to the state Governor dated 21st June, 2018 and submitted same day. Copies of the letter was made available to the Deputy Governor, Ondo State House of Assembly, Chairman of OSOPADEC, Commissioner of Police, State Director of DSS and State Commandant of NSCDC with a full detailed acknowledgment copy with us.

“The above referred letter contained six (6) demands and we urged the government to look into the demands and provide the best solution within fourteen (14) days from the submission of the letter to avert and avoid a looming protest but the government of Ondo state failed to meet up. It should be on record that, the fourteen (14) days ultimatum given elapsed on 5th July, 2018.

“Is it now safe to assert that the government of Ondo State has shown us in the South Senatorial district of Ondo State as inferior to other zones? The same lackadaisical attitude shown by the immediate past administration towards restoration of electricity to our district is being exhibited by the incumbent government.”
