Police Seal off Ondo Assembly Complex

The crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly assumed a new dimension early Monday as the State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison ordered the sealing of the Assembly complex.

This followed the failure of the Assembly members to resolve the leadership crisis that has bedeviled the house in the last four days .

It was gathered that some members led by Hon. Coker Malachi had earlier today assembled at the complex to resume sitting but were stopped by members loyal to the alleged suspended Speaker, Hon. Jumoke Akindele.

The presence of the two groups led to a free for all inside the complex.

Speaking with our correspondent, the state Police Public Relations officer,Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the development.

The police spokesman said they needed to seal off the assembly complex in order to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

He said: ” Yes, I can confirm that to you.It became imperative for us to do that.

One of the strategies we adopt is to be proactive and when we got there this morning, everybody was allowed to go inside the complex in preparation for the day business.

“Lo and behold ,they started this fight among themselves and the matter was degenerating to a free for all. All efforts by the Commissioner of Police to settle the issue through dialogue was not successful.”
