Dakuku Peterside’s Running Mate to face Murder Charge .
Deputy Guber candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Honourable Asita Okorie is to face murder charge in Portharcourt, following directives that the attorney general of the state should prosecute him for the alleged murder of an NYSC member who died in the March 19, 2016 rerun legislative elections.
The Rivers State Executive Council took the decision at its weekly sitting after it considered the recommendation of the Justice Monima Danagogo Commission of Inquiry into the violence and killings that characterized the March 19, 2016 rerun elections in the State.
Justice Monima Danagogo Commission of Inquiry indicted several politicians and state institutions over their roles in the destruction of lives and property during the rerun elections. Honourable Asita Okorie, who was the running mate to Dr. Dakuku Peterside in the 2015 Rivers state governorship election, was among politicians indicted in the report.
Commissioner for Information, Austin Tam-George who addressed the press after the meeting, which the thepoliticonewsonline gathered was chaired by the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike; gave the names of other politicians to be indicted as follows: Mr ThankGod Ode; for an attempted murder in Ogonokom, Abua Odual Local Government Area and Mr Barry Mpigi for the murder of Mrs. Baby Nzuuga, (who was then pregnant) in Kpite Tai.
Tam-George stated that the prosecution was predicated on the enforcement of the fundamental human rights of the victims. Prosecution would be pro bono.
