On their part, the Rivers State Government called the shooting a major breach of security and a threat to peace in the state. In a statement, Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media stated that the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Steven Hasso lead security operatives against the PDP party faithful.Findings by the politiconewsonline revealed that the police action was to avert the anarchy that was building along the State House of Assembly as APC/PDP faithful came face to face within the vicinity of state assembly complex. The buildup of party members of the APC and PDP was estimated at about 10,000; a development that prompted a combined team of soldiers, Civil Defence Corps and the Police to take preemptive action.
