President Muhammadu Buhari has signed an executive order granting financial autonomy to states legislature and judiciary in Nigeria.
He made the announcement in a tweet on his verified twitter account @Mbuhari.
The tweet reads: “Based on the power vested in me under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended), I, today, signed into law Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 for the implementation of Financial Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary.
“This administration will continue to do everything to strengthen the principles and practice of democracy and democratic governance in Nigeria”.
The Presidential Committee on the Implementation of Autonomy of State Legislature and Judiciary had submitted its report to President Buhari in 2019
The committee, which was chaired by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, recommended the signing of Executive Order by the President for the immediate take-off of the implementation of the autonomy for state legislature and the judiciary.
