Sultanate Declares May 2 Eid Day

The Sultanate of Sokoto has announced Saturday that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to mark the end of the Ramadan fast will be held on Monday, May 2nd. This was contained in a release signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu , Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council on behalf of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The statement reads: “The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee did not receive any report from various Moon sighting committees across the country.”

The statement further confirmed that Sunday, May 1, 2022 is the 30th day of Ramadan 1443AH.

The statement then declared that “The Sultan has accepted the report (of the moon sighting committee) and accordingly declared Monday May 2, 2022, as the first day of Shawwal 1442AH and day of Eid-el-Fitr.

The Sultan prayed for Allah’s guidance and blessings to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah in this Eid season.
