Timeline of Abductions in Nigeria in 2021

Kidnapping has recently become a recurring decimal in Nigeria as the North West is the most hit.
Boko Haram in the North East and armed bandits in the North West have consistently made the headlines internationally following mass abductions of students and travellers.
The development has created a climate of fear in the country, raising question about safety of lives and property.
Just two months into year 2021 no fewer than three mass abductions have been carried out in the North West, the latest being abduction of about 300 students in Zamfara.

2021 Kidnapping Timeline on Nigeria:

Jan 2: Boko Haram terrorists on this date abducted no fewer than 50 persons, including a United Nations Humanitarian Worker (Abubakar Garba Idris), who were traveling along Maiduguri- Jakana- Damaturu 135km federal highway, Borno State.

Jan 13: A lecturer in Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, James Finwe. He was whisked away from his residence at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Jan 17: Two persons were abducted at Erin-Ijesa along the Ilesha-Akure Expressway. The victims, a man and a woman,  were kidnapped by gunmen after their vehicle was attacked.

Jan 18: Unidentified gunmen kidnapped Professor Johnson Fatokun, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Anchor University, in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. It was gathered that the assailants attacked the vehicle in Nasarawa en route to the airport to return to Lagos around 2100.

January 23: Kidnappers abducted eight children from an orphanage and three others in Abaji, FCT.

Jan 24: Bandits kidnapped 15 women in an attack by bandits in some communities in Munya and Paikoro local government areas of Niger State.

Jan 25: Gunmen kidnapped 14 persons from Okunland in Kogi State. The victims were abducted between Iffe and Egbeda, in Ijumu council area of the state.

January 27: Kidnappers abducted twenty-seven in Takum, Taraba.

January 27: Bandits kidnapped ten in Chikun, Kaduna.

January 28: Bandits kidnapped fifty persons in Shiroro LGA

Jan 29: No fewer than 21 travellers were abducted by bandits along the Kaduna – Kachia road. The gunmen in large number put on Army uniform and blocked the road at Idom on the  Kaduna –Kschia road when they abducted the persons.

Feb. 1: Gunmen kidnapped three Chinese nationals near a mining operation in Ife East Local Government Area, Osun State. The incident occurred following a dispute between the Chinese employees and local workers at the gold-mining site.

Feb 14: 53 passengers, including twenty women and nine children, traveling in a Niger State Transport Authority bus, we’re abducted by bandits.

Feb 18: 42 people, including 27 schoolboys, were abducted by bandits from Government Science College, Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

Feb 22: Gunmen abducted one Odetunde Emmanuel, a Sociology student at University of Ibadan. He was abducted by four gunmen at his father’s poultry farm in Oke Odan, Apete area of Ibadan.

Feb 26: About 300 female students were kidnapped by bandits as Government Girls’ Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State.
